Bowen sells almost all bulls to several states

Bowen Poll Hereford and Angus stud held its 24th annual sale at Barraba on Thursday, the stud sold all 39 Poll Hereford bulls on offer for a 100 per cent clearance, averaging $7487 with a top of $22,000, and 45 Angus bulls of 49 for a 91 per cent clearance, averaging $6297 for a top of $20,000.

Two more Angus bulls sold after the hammer for $4000 each.

With 82 registered bidders from five states, the stands were full and interest was very strong.

Bowen stud principal Stephen Peake was proud of the bulls on offer and how they had been presented.

“The bulls have the genetics to take you forward with the back up of cow families that are prolific producers” he said.

The $22,000 top-priced Poll Hereford bull and top price bull of the sale was 23-month-old Bowen Notorious N245, a son of Glentrevor Wallace H427 and was purchased by John Settree, Landmark, on behalf of David Lyons, Melville Park Poll Hereford stud, Vasey, Victoria.

Bulk Poll Hereford buyers on the day were Okeview Pastoral, Wagga, who purchased eight bulls for an average price of $6125 and a top price of $9000.

The $20,000 top-priced Angus bull was 23-month-old, 878 kilogram, Peakes Bowen Genisis N566, a son of Pathfinder Genesis G357. Annie Scott of Karoo Angus, Bathurst snapped up the well sort after sire, after viewing him in the flesh she was blown away by his phenotype, his EBV’s and the backing of his cow family.

Several bidders purchased three lots including, J and B Poulsen, Narracoopa, Tasmania, Edendale Co, Inverell, Okeview Pastoral, Scone, Doonba Pastoral, Barraba, Karapiti, Quirindi and Mrs E Allan, Barraba.

Auction was conducted by Landmark, Hart Rural agencies and with auctioneer Paul Dooley.

 Interest was strong with succesful purchasers from several states.
