The stud Poll Hereford cattle we will be offering are a testament to our breeding program. We will not be keeping any Bowen Poll Hereford animals registered under the BOWEN STUD name, any unsold lots will be kept as commercial females or sold commercially.
Our Bowen Poll Hereford stud herd has been the backbone of our business & has allowed us as a family to expand our family farming business enterprise to where we are today.
While we value our Poll Hereford stud herd and the friendships we have all made with many fellow breeders worldwide through the years, we as a family have decided it is time to disperse the entire herd. This is not a decision that any of us have taken lightly, as we all share a deep passion for the Poll Hereford breed.
This is a strategic step to streamline the Bowen family business and support its continued growth for the next generation. Our sons, Nick and Josh, and their families are fully involved in every facet of the business and will help carry it forward.
Although we are saddened to see our Poll Hereford herd go, we remain immensely proud of the dedication that has gone into developing such a high-performing herd.
With dispersing our entire herd, we are giving fellow breeders a rare and unique opportunity to purchase proven genetics that have been carefully selected through 63 years of breeding. The cattle in this dispersal sale have been bred here on this property ‘Bowen’. Which is far from being river country. Over 63 years of breeding, we have seen the Poll Hereford breed continue to evolve and improve.
Across those decades, our herd has endured droughts, floods and fires, adapting and developing through every challenge. Its temperament, fertility, adaptability and hardiness reflect the many strengths of the Hereford breed—true survivors in all climatic conditions.
Through the Bowen Genetics research arm of our business, our work has successfully completed two peer reviews: one with BMC Veterinary Research in the UK, and another with PLOS ONE in the USA, which is scheduled for publication in January 2027.
Our findings have identified individuals within the Hereford population carrying homozygous SNP genotypes associated with marbling and/or long-chain omega-3 fatty-acid profiles.
This research represents another chapter in our family’s long-term focus on cattle that perform throughout the supply chain — from the breeding herd through to the attributes of the final product.
